Nkhata Bay

... was where I went for New Year's with other volunteers. I'm using someone else's camera but unfortunately a lot of the pictures were deleted... like us holding a fish. :(
But Nkhata Bay (Lake Malawi) is so gorgeous. It made me realize how much I miss the water (Pacific Ocean).

So, after Christmas, we hitched a ride up to Mzuzu, the nothern major city (there are only 3 major cities in Malawi - in the south, central, north) and stayed there for 3 days. We locked ourselves in the Peace Corps rest house, ate pot roast/brownies/bread pudding/good food!, and watched Apocalypto, Knocked Up, Freaks and Geeks, Peanuts Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and others (that's how deprived we are).

Then, on New Year's Eve, we rode down to the lake and camped out on the beach the whole day and night. It was so peaceful sleeping on the beach (though painful for my back) listening to the rain pitter-patter on the tent and the waves crashing. We somehow got fireworks too, so we were setting them off 2 feet from our tarp shelter. o_O But I love fireworks so that was pretty awesome! :)
